  • The Tampa Bay Rays new single-A affiliate, the Charlotte Stone Crabs, unveiled their new logos and uniforms today, so that means new uniforms for MVP Baseball 2009. I figured this would also be a good time to showcase some new and revamped uniforms you’ll be able to use with the major league Rays in this year’s game:

  • Lots of minor league changes yet again this year, so I’ve posted a small preview below of some of the first changes to be announced this off-season:

So as you can see above, I went a little concept crazy recently. These are not so much concepts as they are my guess as to what several teams would actually do if they decided to adopt a true road jersey.

A handful of teams don’t have their city’s name on their road grey jersey, however there may be a few less next year — The Orioles are set to place ‘Baltimore’ on their road jerseys and the Rays are rumored to join in as well and display ‘Tampa Bay’ on their grey’s. Since no preview images have surfaced for either team’s actual jersey, you will have to settle for my best guess.

The Baltimore road jersey is included in my big uniform set, as well as MVP 2008, and in addition you’ll find the three jerseys pictured above. As of now, I haven’t heard any news about the Phillies or Angels adding their respective city names to their road grey’s, but if they did I think they’d find two good concepts in my uniform set. I like how the Angels uniform borrows a bit from the predominantly red St. Louis Cardinals’ choice to add more navy in their away attire (Both the Angels and Cardinals share the same team colors) while the Phillies concept would them to join the Rockies and Twins as the only teams to go with pinstripes for both home and road sets.

  • So, why no updates you ask? Well, I’ve been busy. Here’s an example of some new items you’ll find on the progress page:

    000g 2008 70s Throwback

    003j 2008 Senators throwback

    003n 1994 Home

    009g 1968 Home

    009m 2008 1973 Throwback

    009e 2009 Road

    012l 2008 St. Pete throwback

    018m 2008 1980 Orange home throwback

    021n 2008 80’s Rainbow throwback

So there’s all that, which is really just the tip of the MLB iceberg, then you’ve got the countless MiLB uniforms that are included. So many other new uniforms are in there, not including the many more which have been re-done and re-edited — the biggest uniform release for MVP Baseball 2005 is getting much, much larger…

  • Big day today. An all Padre day. You would have thought it was Spanish father’s day with the amount of San Diego uniform work I did today. The Padres got a big-time throwback makeover, so all you San Diegans (or is it San Diego-ites? San Diego-uns? San Dieg-ons?) can write me a big fat check for $32.50, ’cause I deserve it.

Including San Diego, here are the teams that are included in Update 3:

Rays — Names fixed on 2008 uniforms, added 1998 throwback uniform

Rockies — Re-done in new templates, added 1999 ‘Turn Ahead the Clock‘ uniform

Padres — Re-done in new templates (including throwback uniforms), new chest/script logos, added 1980s throwback uniform, 2001 throwback uniform

Baltimore — Re-done in new templates

Blue Jays — Re-done in new templates

Diamondbacks — Re-done in new templates

  • So what do I do after releasing a big giant BETA pack full of uniforms? Release an update two days later of course… I’ve also added my name to the Wikipedia entry for anal retentive.

Now I know what you’re saying, you’re saying “Hey Goober, why the hey would you release an update so soon?” Well first off, you’re talking to a computer screen. Second, did you not read the first sentence? I’m WAY NERDY when it comes to uniforms. I’m continually working on uniforms. So last night I was sleeping, right, and I was having this dream that I was on the computer working on uniforms, but then I suddenly woke up and realized… I was on the computer working on uniforms. So this is the first of what will probably be several BETA updates. Since I’m continually working, this is a much better idea for all of you rather than having to download the entire BETA every time I finish a few more uniforms.

New items included in BETA Update 1:

Twins — Re-done in new templates

Red Sox — Re-done in new templates

Yankees — Re-done in new templates, added 1950s era throwback uniform

Devil Rays — Name issue fixed

Blue Jays — Powder blue alternate converted to modern slot, throwback numbers fixed, added 2003 throwback uniform

Dodgers — Re-done in new templates, added spring uniform

Reds — Re-done in new templates

Braves — Added 1970s and 1940s era throwback uniforms

As always, you can find the update in the ‘downloads’ section. Now go install it, play with it, and send me a check for $13.50.
