MVP Baseball
In which the author ponders CBS primetime…
Lots of minor league changes yet again this year, so I’ve posted a small preview below of some of the first changes to be announced this off-season:
In which the author gets serious about Arby’s…
The three of you who read this blog might be wondering, after my last post, exactly what is so great about these new uniform textures/templates? Well, why don’t you just take a look at the little retrospective below and figure it out for yourself:
2005 — Basically just the default EA uniform texture here, although I threw in something new that hadn’t been seen before… the illusion of a ‘fold’ in the chest script. It’s there, trust me. Well, look harder.
2006 — I’ve smoothed out parts of the default EA uniform texture, though it’s still pretty much the exact same as the year before. I continue on with the idea of creating a break in the chest script, but as you can see, only slight progress is made. Frankly, it still sucks. The biggest thing to happen this year is I begin to poorly recreate the Nike undershirts that debuted this season.
2007 — Finally, the first year I begin using my very own uniform template. Using the EA default as a guide (So the shadows and folds would continue to map out correctly) I smoothed things out and added some things here and there, most notably the inclusion of actual buttons. Nothing too major, but at least I’m starting to break away from the normal. This was also when I began using more life-like chest scripts. Combine that with the new templates and you can really see the jump up to higher quality this year.
2008 — Further refining my templates here, I drastically alter the button flap area to create a more flowing, realistic jersey. The idea of stitching is re-thought here as I decide to go with a more pronounced and noticeable stitch.
2009 — Finally, something I can really say I’m proud of. The stitching has been overhauled again for the last time, producing a more realistic looking stitch. The center button flap area is modified once more and the rest of the jersey is given some more texture, providing what I feel to be the most realistic uniform that is possible given the graphical limitations of MVP Baseball 2005. Also, no more template overhauls, too much work for too little pay.
In which the author returns, somewhat out of breath…
Due to some technical problems with the blog I was unable to update or login, so the absence that no one noticed is now over… and with my return I’ve brought pictures!
In addition to the obvious updates for 2009, I’ve been rigorously working on updating most of last year’s uniforms to this year’s brand new template and texture design. For those of you that didn’t notice, the above uniforms feature that new template, and while it is by no means Earth shattering, I feel it does make some much-needed changes to my previous design that should finally make for the most authentic uniform experience that I am able to create with this game.
Aside from re-doing last year’s junk with my new junk, I have also been creating many brand new uniforms as well, mostly old throwback uniforms. Because of this and my work updating uniforms to the new textures, you’re guaranteed to see something new with your favorite team this coming season.
In which the author purports a rather dubious claim…
So as you can see above, I went a little concept crazy recently. These are not so much concepts as they are my guess as to what several teams would actually do if they decided to adopt a true road jersey.
A handful of teams don’t have their city’s name on their road grey jersey, however there may be a few less next year — The Orioles are set to place ‘Baltimore’ on their road jerseys and the Rays are rumored to join in as well and display ‘Tampa Bay’ on their grey’s. Since no preview images have surfaced for either team’s actual jersey, you will have to settle for my best guess.
The Baltimore road jersey is included in my big uniform set, as well as MVP 2008, and in addition you’ll find the three jerseys pictured above. As of now, I haven’t heard any news about the Phillies or Angels adding their respective city names to their road grey’s, but if they did I think they’d find two good concepts in my uniform set. I like how the Angels uniform borrows a bit from the predominantly red St. Louis Cardinals’ choice to add more navy in their away attire (Both the Angels and Cardinals share the same team colors) while the Phillies concept would them to join the Rockies and Twins as the only teams to go with pinstripes for both home and road sets.

Straight from the nerd that lives deep, deep inside of me, here are some stats on my big All-Star break uniform release:
414 uniforms total
250 MLB uniforms
64 AAA uniforms
44 AA uniforms
56 A uniforms
Of the 120 teams in the game, I made uniforms for 98 of them (82%)
Of the 26 teams I did not make uniforms for, 20 teams were handled by redsox and 2 were handled by bigbully.
This thang will be out soon…
In which the author explains the deeper meaning of pants…
From time to time, I like to go through my archives and marvel at the way things used to be. Below is a little example which shows how MVP 2005 looked straight out of the box, and how it looks now… guess which is which.
Sunday Night Updates
Update #1 for my 2008 uniform set is now available at EAmods. Mostly included are updates and changes to existing uniforms, however one new uniform is included:

What’s the progress on the updates?
I forgot to update the progress list before the big release, so here are the last uniforms that were included in my 2008 uniforms set:

The progress page has now been updated to reflect these changes. Not like anyone’s gonna read that long list, though. It is long.
In other news, I’ll be releasing small ‘updates’ on this blog from time to time over the course of the season. I plan on releasing three main updates — one opening week, one at the all-star break, and one during the first round of the playoffs. In between those large updates that will be available at www.eamods.com, I’ll put smaller updates on here, which will include small fixes for various small problems. For example, the first update will remove the names on the back of Toronto’s powder blue jersey — exciting, huh? You know it is…
